6 Tips for Sending Family Holiday Cards

6 Tips for Sending Family Holiday Cards

If anyone knows about family Christmas cards, it's us—and it's never too early to start planning! Here are our top 5 tips that have helped us nail the perfect card every year:

1. Book a photographer

The earlier you book, the better. It ensures that you'll get a session with the photographer you love, and you'll get the best pick of dates and times for your family session.

2. Find inspiration on Pinterest

Searching for "family holiday photos" or "holiday card ideas" is a great start. Pin complementary colors, patterns, and ideal settings to help determine a theme you can discuss with your photographer.

3. Select an online Christmas card service

Several online services allow you to design custom Christmas cards. Select a service in advance to narrow down your card design options and choose a design that will complement the inspiration you've pinned on Pinterest.

4. Coordinate outfits

If you have little ones, you might want to have a backup outfit just in case there are any accidents or spills before—and possibly even during—the shoot! Consider dressing the family in our Clarence Claus™ sweaters, t-shirts, or pajamas for a little outfit inspiration.

5. Gather addresses

Gather or update addresses in advance so that you're ready to send your cards once you receive them. We've found organizing addresses into Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets to be helpful, as well as using a service like Postable

6. Have fun!

These photos aren't for your driver's license or work. Relax, have fun, and get ready to laugh! You want to be able to look back on these photos for years to come and smile at the magical moments captured.

7. Bonus tip!

It's always best to err on the side of caution and send your cards early! Using the tips above, you should be able to mail your Christmas cards early enough for your recipients to receive them before the holiday.
